Why a sponge filter in your aquarium?

Young aquarium animals (shrimp) are very small. They easily fit between the inlet, outflow- of a mechanical filter. Young animals often don't survive this and you'll see them never again. Using a sponge filter this can never happen because it doesn't contain any moving parts. The sponge is very fine and does not allow the shrimp to crawl inside, but still offers a lot of room for the good bacteria that keep your aquarium water of high quality.

What is the correct sponge filter for me?

To see what size sponge filter is needed for the aquarium it's important to know what's the capacity and occupation of your aquarium. We use a standard scheme to figure out which sponge filter you need.

At a low occupation (shrimp): volume of the aquarium X 1.10 = number of litres.

At a medium occupation (small fish and large amount of shrimp): volume of the aquarium X 1.25 = number of litres.

At a high occupation (large amount of fish): volume of the aquarium X 1.40 = number of litres.

Additional information

Air pump and air hose are not included. It's possible to use multiple sponge filters in 1 aquarium, just add up the amount of litres.
